The World Steel Association (Worldsteel) announced the crude steel production data for May 2024. Accordingly, Türkiye’s crude steel production in May increased by 11.6% to 3.2 million tons compared to the same month in the previous year.
This figure increased by 14.3% compared to the previous month, which was April. Türkiye ranked eighth in global crude steel production rankings for the same month.
During the January-May period of 2024, Türkiye's crude steel production increased by 16.1% to a total of 15.5 million tons compared to the same period in the previous year.
China, which ranks first in global crude steel production, saw an increase of 2.7% to 92.9 million tons in steel production in May compared to the previous year.
India achieved a production of 12.2 million tons with a 3.5% increase, while Japan's crude steel production decreased by 6.3% to 7.2 million tons in the same month.
During the same month, the United States' crude steel production fell by 1.5% to 6.9 million tons. It is estimated that Russia's production decreased by 0.9% to 6.3 million tons.
South Korea experienced a 10.9% decrease to 5.2 million tons in production during the same period, and Germany's crude steel production decreased by 1.9% to 3.2 million tons. Iran's production increased by 2.1% to 3.3 million tons, while Brazil's production fell by 7.4% to 2.6 million tons.
Global crude steel production increased by 1.5% to 165.1 million tons in the same month compared to the previous year.
