Turkish iron and steel industry enters 2025 with hope despite global uncertainties

Fuat Tosyalı, President of the Mediterranean Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters' Association (ADMIB), announced that the sector realized exports totaling USD 2.3 billion in January. Tosyalı stated that the results obtained despite the ongoing uncertainties in the global economy indicate that 2025 will be a positive year for the sector.

Türkiye's ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector, which compensated for its losses in the first half of the year with the momentum it achieved in the last quarter of last year, reached USD 1 billion in exports with an increase of 7.8% in January 2025. Türkiye's steel industry, on the other hand, completed 2024 with 8.7% growth and increased its export revenue to USD 1.3 billion with an increase of 12.4% in January.

According to ADMIB data, exports of ferrous and non-ferrous metals increased by 8% to USD 68 million in January, while steel exports reached USD 174 million with a record increase of 44%.

“We Will Focus on Value Added Products”

Fuat Tosyalı, President of ADMIB, emphasized that they aim to make the momentum achieved by the sector in exports sustainable and made the following evaluations:

“Despite global economic uncertainties, our exports are increasing steadily. We believe that 2025 will continue with this momentum. As a sector, we aim to further strengthen our position in the market with environmentally friendly and competitive products by improving our product diversity and innovative approaches. We will continue our growth by adapting to new trade dynamics. While maintaining our strength in our traditional markets, especially in the European Union, we will accelerate our efforts to gain more ground in markets such as the USA and Africa.”

Tosyalı stated that they aim to ensure the sustainability of exports by focusing on value-added products and to provide maximum contribution to the Turkish economy by reaching large export volumes in terms of tonnage and value.
