In this context, Tokyo Steel has launched a new green steel brand, "enso", together with Stemcor, a UK-based iron ore trading company. According to sources, the brand includes hot-rolled coil and plate steel products with significantly lower carbon emissions compared to blast furnace producers in Europe.
Tokyo Steel aims to strengthen its strategy towards European customers. The company produces using the electric arc furnace method, which reduces carbon emissions through the use of scrap, and is working on an ultra-low carbon emission product with 100% renewable energy, which will be launched by the end of 2024.
Hisanori Sakai, general manager of Tokyo Steel's international sales department, said the launch of the "enso" brand emphasises the company's commitment to the circular economy and its efforts to further reduce carbon emissions. "We strive to minimise our carbon footprint through proprietary technological innovations used in our production process and increased use of renewable energy," Sakai said.
This development reflects the growing demand for carbon emission reductions in the steel industry in Europe and companies' strategic steps towards sustainable products.
