In a program organized at a restaurant in Konya, Arkan recalled that they started a new rolling mill investment last year with an investment of 3 billion liras.
Arkan stated that Eti Alüminyum covered 10 percent of the domestic market's need with a production of 82 thousand tons and prevented imports of 250 million dollars every year and said, "We started a new rolling mill investment in Seydişehir in order to produce aluminum products used in aircraft bodies, as raw materials for armor materials and in the ship industry while ensuring supply security in strategic sectors such as the defense industry. We aim to start production at the end of next year. We will provide 350 million dollars of support to close the current account deficit with our rolling products that we will provide to many sectors in the domestic market, especially the defense industry."
"We are targeting to reach an annual production capacity of 40 thousand tons"
Emphasizing that employment opportunities will be created with new investments, Arkan continued as follows:
"Another investment, which will be a revolution for the local industry and developed by our Turkish engineers, is the special alumina unit. We have started machine assembly and plan to commission the new line in the second half of this year. With this unit, we aim to reach an annual production capacity of 40 thousand tons. Special alumina, which will be produced for the first time in Türkiye, diversifies the number of sectors in which it is used, as it is light and flexible, as well as being resistant to very high temperatures and not melting even at 2000 degrees Celsius. With this important investment, we will meet our country's need for special alumina and work to reduce foreign dependency."
Highlighting that they have also started working to recover lithium from the residual product of bauxite, Arkan explained that lithium is one of the most important metals used in the batteries of electric vehicles.
Arkan pointed out that Türkiye needs 200 tons of lithium carbonate annually and said, "We have made our patent application for recovering lithium from bauxite. However, since this is the first such initiative in the world, the patent phase takes a long time. We received positive feedback from patent studies in Türkiye. Now we are waiting for the completion of the procedure in the US, China and Europe. When we start operating at full capacity, we will recover 250 tons of lithium every year. Apart from lithium, we are also working on recovering rare earth elements from the residual product that emerges in the process."
